Crochet Fabric Doily

I am thinking about making one of these or this one…so decided to do some experimenting with different yarns and fabrics and textures and hook sizes.  I used this pattern which was reworked from a pattern created/used in the 1890s.  

I used a size L crochet hook and 1/2 inch wide cuts of fabric. It was the perfect thickness and openness.  I think I may try making a rug out of an old white bed sheet cut into 3/4 inch wide strips.  It would be much cheaper than the cotton cording or three strands of yarn.

Anyhow, love how this little doily turned out!

Thrifty finds this week…

I found a new thrift store this weekend!  I can’t believe I haven’t heard of Savers Thrift Stores, but I saw the one in Fairview Heights and meandered in to check it out!

I bought the small skeins of all wool yarn for 99 cents for a two pack (the packaging says that they are all the same dye lot and color number, but I think not!!) and the larger cones of linen like thread varied but no more than $1.50 each.

The shadow box frame I bought at Goodwill for $1 and the oval frames came from Savers and they were 99 cents each.  I am working on a frame wall and am looking for some different shapes to add to it.

And the last few things I found…a little painted metal shelf (from an auction) and the new mason jar that is “vintage inspired”…I had seen them at Target and wanted one but not 6 of them so I was happy to find this single jar at Goodwill for $1.

Another Christmas Present…felted wool slippers

I love Knotsewcute on etsy!  I used their pattern to make my son felted slippers for Christmas.  And yes on the 23rd I was still crocheting away!  He wears as size 14 and the pattern only goes to a size 13, so I added some stitches.  They look like two different sizes here, but they were identical!

They were as long as my bed pillows before I tossed them into the washer several times.  In fact, they were still damp when Sam put them on Christmas morning.

Anyway, big score!  He loved them and they fit!  I made them in New York Yankees colors…his favorite baseball team.

Crocheted Bracelets

OK, so I was at Michaels yesterday and I was looking for some Swarovski crystal beads in neutral/natural colors.  Don’t bother looking, apparently they are not in big demand.  I walked past the Michaels lady doing a demo several times.  I figure I don’t need another craft (especially when I can choose from about a zillion ideas on my My to do list...someday or on my Makin’ Jewelry boards on Pinterest) so I didn’t even look at what she was making.

So, anyway, there I was looking for some special beads for some earrings.  And I couldn’t find any…so I ended up looking at some premade bracelets and found the color beads I wanted.  Eventually the Michaels lady asked me if I found what I needed.  And that is when it happened!

I looked over and she was making this really cool bracelet.  Hmmm, she had a crochet hook in one hand and beads on wire in the other hand.  That was the end of my resolve not to find another project/craft!

I went and bought me some 26G wire and that was it.  I had the beads, and of course the crochet hook and the jewelry findings. 

I made this one in about 20 minutes…it is three strands braided together and with the ends attached.  You could use a clasp but I found the bracelet is a bit stretchy and I decided to skip the clasp on this one and just add a charm.

This pink pearl bracelet I made first…I used a clasp on it and thought when I first got it done that it was too small.  But once again it is a bit stretchy so I was able to “stretch” it to fit me!

This one is very soft and romantic…

I saw, I pinned, I made!

I saw this on Pinterest and just had to pin it!  I needed a little something for a gift, so I thought I would give the pattern a shot. 

The pattern is adapted from an 1893 circle motif pattern.  Very simple!  I did make some adjustments to the pattern of course…the middle one is exactly the same as the directions. 

On the littlest one I only did three rows, on the largest one I added a row to the pattern.

The yarn I used was Cream and Sugar cotton yarn….it is actually a pretty purple color. Not sure what was going on with the camera and/or lighting, but they are definitely not blue!

I pinned it and made it…

I pinned this ombre crochet basket last week and yesterday I whipped up a basket using that pattern…clearly didn’t use the ombre idea, but I wanted to make one with the yarn I had on hand. 

Of course I tweaked it a bit…I used 3 strands of yarn instead of the 4 that it called for.  I just happened to have 3 coordinating yarns that I wanted to use. 

I love the bottom of the basket…it has a row at the bottom that really makes the start of the side very clear.  Hard to explain, but it looks great and the basket sits perfectly on the bottom.  Perfect for holding yarn or fat quarters or seashells!
