Pile of quilts bound…check!

I had five quilts waiting to be bound.  I had even actually sewn the binding on, just needed to fold it over and sew it down.  Seriously, why do I put things off like this?  I got them all done today!

2013-11-06 004 (2)

So this is one of my favorite ones to finish this weekend.  Of course Milo has to help me out by sitting on the newly laundered quilt.  Anyone else out there have to wash a quilt after finishing it??

2013-11-06 005

I mean seriously I toss them straight into the washer when they are done.

2013-11-06 010

I am loving these colors…the fabric is from Connecting Threads a few years ago and the leaf print is the same in lots of colors.

2013-11-06 025

I’m using up scraps so the back is strips of leftover fabrics that I had “stashed”.

2013-11-06 027

I even used scraps of the fabric for binding it too!  Don’t you just love it when you pick off all the pieces of thread and fuzz off before the picture and then post a pic with a giant fuzz ball or piece of string?  Let’s just pretend that string is not in this picture, OK?

The guest bedroom is now open for business!

I have a guest bedroom now!  I got to make over my son’s bedroom since he moved into his own apartment. He is a sophomore now and lives close so I still get to see him.  The room was a bit of a disaster, I deep cleaned and shampooed the carpet and touched up the paint and spackled, and well you get the idea!

I’ve always loved the morning sun this room gets…

100_8815

This little desk was mine as a child…built by my grandfather in 1965.  I think all five of us girls got one like this and the boys got a more business like desk.  The original stool is long gone but I found this little vanity stool at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $1.  I recovered it with some chevron fabric and it was ready to use. I am still looking for the perfect lamp here.

100_8827

I moved a little bookcase into the corner of the room and added some bright colors in a beachy/ocean theme.

100_8822

The ombre basket that I painted goes well here!

100_8823

So does the dictionary page saying in a thrifted frame…

100_8809

The walls in this room are grey, I didn’t care for it at first, but it goes great with the blue, yellow, cream and red that I used. I bought very little for this room makeover, much of it I had accumulated over time.

100_8808

I did make the headboard for the bed.  And the quilt on the bottom of the bed.

100_8807

And these two quilts which I tucked into a thrift store painted basket.

100_8797

I love this coat rack; I made it from hardware store faucets and actually cost very little.

100_8793

The little red glass lamp came out of my closet and the embroidery hoops were collected and I used scraps to put in them.  I made the dust ruffle from a thrifted fitted mattress pad and some muslin that was 70% off at JoAnns.

100_8795

Mom got me the beach sign for my birthday and you can see how I made the wreath here.

100_8812

You can see the little pine chest here…it is called a “shoe chest” in my family.  Again, my grandfather made it in 1965 and I think all of us had one at one time.  The square pouf I got at Target for $11 (Wal-Mart had them for $20 even)!  It was on clearance and recovering it is on my to do list.

Another Bandanna Quilt

100_7683

Love the colors in this bandanna quilt. I have made several of these before, the first one was 25+ years ago and we carried it everywhere, to the state fair, to picnics, fireworks.

100_7687

This is a gift for someone special.

100_7685

Milo has to get in on all the action too!  I spread the quilt out nicely and here he came.

100_7690

The bright blue and the chocolate brown look great together.

100_7691

I backed it with a bright blue gingham (from Goodwill $1) and a row of left over bandanas.

100_7693

Aunt Marge quilted it for me and did a great job…

100_7686

I bound it with a chocolate polka dot fabric which looks so cute!

100_7698

Love the quilting design too!!

Vintage 1940s Scrappy Quilt

100_5043
OK, right off the start I will admit that I did not make the top of this quilt…actually neither did I quilt it!  So, anyway, now that we have that out of the way, isn’t this a beautiful quilt?
100_5049
My excellent memory makes it hard for me to remember where I found this quilt top, but I think it came from a friend/coworker whose mom sold me a bunch of fabric (including three finished quilt tops), notions, various household goods (I am talking a whole back seat full of stuff including gallon size containers of dish soap for 50 cents each!) for $20!
100_5046
Anyway, my Aunt Marge quilted it and I usually just give her free reign to choose the quilting pattern. I don’t think I could have made a more perfect choice!  I love how the center patchwork is more pastel colors and the outside border is more primary colors.  I imagine that the border was made after the center of the quilt.

Tuesday {Ten}

100_1261
I made two ribbon organizers…
100_1253
and some wild flip flops for my niece…
100_1164
and stuck this free vinyl decal on my wall above my bed…and
100_1103
mailed off a package for a gift exchange!
.100_1282
I also spray painted this plain wicker table (came with another table I bought at an auction—paid $2 for three tables!) with Summer Squash by Krylon.
100_1285
I also stripped and refinished this table (the actual table I wanted and paid $2 for!)…love the design, I think it has a Danish look, but I could be wrong.  It’s not my usual style, but I love it!  Still needs one more coat of lacquer and it will be done.  It has been so stinking hot outside here it is hard to brave the 100 degree temps to paint!
100_1288
I found this great quilt at the Salvation Army…it was behind the counter and I bought some other things I asked if I could set behind the counter so I could shop more.  As I set down my other box (fabrics, yarn and trims) I saw this…the tag read OLD $15!  I grabbed it fast!!
100_1290
It is in perfect shape and great colors, probably 40s and 50s fabrics.  Not a stain or tear on it!
100_1287
I also found this barkcloth pillow cover…love the colors!  Can’t decide what to do with it, maybe a bag or hey, maybe I will just let it stay a pillow cover!
100_1212
And lastly a lovely bouquet of coneflowers, fern and a zinnia!
