Nasturtiums, cucumbers, and zinnias…oh my!! I always plants some seeds to start my summer garden. Making these fun plant markers
I always mark the seedlings so I know what to plant where…usually I can identify the plants but sometimes I can’t remember.
I used some wooden sticks I have had in the garage for years…I think my son and I last made coasters out of them when he was about eight years old! Making these markers would be fun to do with the children at home and for great Mother’s Day gifts…plants a flower in a small cup or thrift store teacup and make a marker to go with it!
I painted almost to the end of them with some acrylic paint I had on hand, and marked the plant name on with a black Sharpie.
Milo is my gardening manager. Here he is checking to see if he can grab a stick when I am not watching…
I am trying to grow some cactus this year. A few of them are up and so far they look like jade plants.
I love zinnias, but don’t love to pay $3 or $4 each for them at the nursery. I got a mix of 1 to 3 feet sizes and all sorts of colors.
Poppies and moonflower vines are sprouting…
Cucumbers and pumpkins too!
The trays I used are from a party at work, they were plastic covers over sub sandwich trays. I dug them out of a trash can…they were perfect for seed starter trays! I might have been teased about being a dumpster digger!
I can’t wait to dig in the dirt and plant them outside!
This is Jake; he is a young man with DMD (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) who has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Jake has been invited to play for the USA Under 18's Power Soccer Team! This is an amazing opportunity that he simply cannot pass up! Jake is an amazing Power Soccer Player and it has changed his life for the better. DMD is a progressive muscle wasting disease that robs boys of their ability to walk. In spite of having DMD, Jake always stays positive and has a great time living life. Since starting to play Power Soccer Jake has expressed that he wants to someday play for the United States Power Soccer Team…now he has a chance to play for the USA in Paris! Yes, Paris the city in France. Of course this will take money…that’s where you can help.
Danielle and I “met” online when she ran across a post I had done about our family fundraising for the MDA. You can read a few of the posts here and here. I follow Danielle on Facebook and Instagram and feel like I know her and her family even though we have never met.
Here is what Danielle Bath, Jake’s mom, says about Jake and her family: “I want to tell you a bit about our family. We are a small family living in Sacramento, California. We consist of myself, aka mom & aka Danielle. Dad, Travis. Kids Jake, Emma and Colin. We are a tight family dedicated to each other, and dedicated to living our lives to the fullest. Having fun and making memories are a priority. Seems like atypical family right? In those aspects we are a typical family, except we have a little dark cloud that hangs over us. In October of 2007, we received devastating news that our 2 sons have a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It is a progressive muscle wasting disease. It takes away boys' ability to walk, and eventually takes their lives sooner than later. Beyond the physical, Duchenne also has the ability to take away a proper childhood. It also can take away hopes and dreams of the future. Need less to say, we have quite the void. A huge part of that void is filled with Power Soccer. Power Soccer gives Jake and our family the chance to get a reprieve from Duchenne, even if only for a few hours. For the last 12 months, we have made the 90 minute (each way) drive from Sacramento to Berkeley to take Jake to practice as a family on Saturdays. With his disability he may have been robbed of the feeling of team spirit, robbed of learning a sport, and working hard at improving his sport. Power Soccer has changed all of that. Jake is part of an amazing team, with a wonderful group of people. Power Soccer is the only place where he does not have to rely on others to do something for him, he is on his own out there on the court making his own decisions. It truly is amazing to watch.”
DMD is something that greatly affects my family as well as my youngest sister has two boys, Beau and Gabe, who also have DMD. My family has been involved in fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy for several years in the past. Life expectancy is way too short…you can read more about DMD here.
I challenge everyone who reads this to help this family make Jake’s dream come true!

Please consider sharing this on any social networking that you use! Have a great week!
I’m telling you this is exciting stuff! I cleaned out the medicine cabinet and the shelves with toiletries, organizing and getting rid of outdated/unused supplies. That was part of my 40 bags in 40 days attempt. I accomplished about 34 bags…so that helps!
Found this on instagram and love it!!
Had some great sky candy on my way home from Jefferson City this past week!
My son found out that the Easter Bunny still comes when you are 19, he wasn’t sure.
Easter morning the sun was wonderful…it started out kind of foggy and cloudy, but turned out to be a beautiful day.
Milo just loves to bask in the sun…
And it seems that baby kitty does too! He was stretched out on this metal glider on the deck sleeping for hours.
I had a small surge of sewing that occurred this week. I have another fun item cut out ready to put together, but for now I have to show off this dog collar for a dog friend and two infinity scarves for which I have a tutorial here.
I got three more finished quilts back from my Aunt Marge so I need to bind them, let’s see, that makes 6 in the stack to bind. I even have the binding cut, I just need to sew the strips together and apply to the quilt. Just a matter of getting it done!
Milo has his own instagram account now…check him out for the sweetest Mr. Puggles pics!
Here is one of my infinity scarves I made…you can go here to see my post. I have now lost almost 60# and am feeling really good!
I got a wild hair to make a few infinity scarves yesterday…I stopped at Wal-Mart on my way home and bought a few really cheap pieces of fabric. I mostly have cotton at home in my stash so I thought it would be best to buy some fabric specifically for this project.
These were the two that I made last night. I chose thin gauzy type fabrics and actually the fabric lady at Wal-Mart was very helpful. We started talking and she is an environmental engineer who just happens to work at Wal-Mart. She told me she used to work as an engineer but now she prefers to have a less stressful job. So, anyway, I digress!
I went over to the scarf section to get an idea of size and ended up just taking a scarf that fit like I wanted over to the cutting table. I only wanted one seam in mine so I bought 2 1/3 yards of the fabric (you can get two scarves from that yardage). The most I paid for one scarf was $4.
I cut a piece of the fabric 20 by 84 inches. I have a serger so I serged the short sides together in a rolled edge seam…you could also sew a regular seam on a regular machine too.
Then I did the same type of rolled edge on the sides to finish the edges.
That’s all there is to it, just turn it right side out and wear it! Seriously took me just 10 min to make each one from start to finish. I wore it to work today and got lots of compliments.
This is Mizzou country so the black and gold was perfect!
Milo is modeling a dog collar that I made for a big lab…Milo is a lab wanna be…he only weighs 20# so I had to tighten the collar as far down as I could get it and it is still just hanging!
It fits much better around Milo’s chest.
A close friend of my niece and her husband is moving with his family to Australia. That family includes this beautiful yellow lab named Maggie!
Here’s Maggie with my nephew Brady. She is so gentle and sweet…
Here she is chillaxin…
I wanted to give Maggie something special because she is such an awesome dog.
My sister Sarah makes fabric collars for all the dogs in her life. So, I thought I would give it a try and make Maggie a kangaroo collar. I found the kangaroo fabric on Spoonflower.com and purchased an ugly collar at Wal-Mart that was Maggie’s size. I just took it apart and used the hardware to make the new collar.
Seriously easy project!
I might be linking to some of these great parties!
These cute eggs came out of the closet for my Easter decorations…I don’t do as much holiday decorating now that my son is older, but I do love these eggs. This is a repost from last year, but since it’s that time of the year…
Supplies: Mod Podge (I used matte), dictionary pages (or music or maps or wrapping paper or napkins or any other paper or fabric that would look good wrapped around eggs), scissors, and of course eggs (you could use plastic, paper mache, wooden, or even real blown out eggs for this craft)!
I didn’t buy these eggs specifically for this project, they were with a pile of stuff I bought at an auction! They were the most ugly old country colors—forest green, burgundy and odd shade of navy and a mustardy yellow. Just ugly! And I almost pitched them! The more looked at them though…the more I thought about what I could do with them!
So, I cut the dictionary pages into about 1 1/2 inch strips, and just slathered Mod Podge to both the eggs and the paper. The butterflies(actually I think they are moths) were printed onto another dictionary page. I cut them out loosely and Mod Podged them on the eggs!
