New Wool Pins

I made these a few weeks ago from scraps of wool felt left over from other projects.  I wanted to figure out what I could do with sweater cuffs after the sweater had been washed.  I decided to cut a short length and flat sew the edges and then gather the trimmed side.
And then I put a felt cut out or button or vintage earring in the middle.
This one turned out really cute!
I made this stack of hearts from shades of pink and then a cream color heart on top.
Here is another cuff flower...this one is a fail though...the more I look at it the more it looks to me like bunny rabbit poo in the middle of the flower! It actually is a vintage earring that I spray painted chocolate brown.  I alternate thinking that this looks like either a pile of chocolate bridge mix or the bunny poo that I mentioned earlier!
Now I am off to make a toddler dress and a garland for a bridal shower this next weekend and a wool rose wreath for my niece.

New Job, New Jewelry Needs!

OK, so I have a new job...where I work five days a week instead of the three days a week that I have worked for most of the last 25 years.  So these days are 8 hour days instead of my former 12 hour shifts, so I love it.  But truthfully not having four days off a week has limited my crafting time!
I have been a nurse for 30+ years and have always been a bedside nurse...until now!  I am an office nurse now, on the phone a lot (so I got me a great ear phone thingy now so my neck hopefully won't be so sore at the end of the day).
I have my name on the door--first time every!  For that matter, first time to have a door or an office or desk...well you get the idea.   So that brings me to the next issue.  Now I can dress up and wear jewelry...I have some nice costume jewelry, some I have made too.  But it has been such a hassle to find necklaces here....
Everything is just junked into this drawer.  Necklaces are tangled, earrings are stuck in bracelets, earrings are solo...it's a big mess!
I found three necklace/jewelry trees on etsy that I liked....
I really like this one because it is so different
And I like this one for it's simplicity...
This one is even simpler and is smaller, taking up less space.
But I had other plans...I had more wall space than horizontal area for a tree.
I had been saving some porcelain knobs over the years and had three different kinds and sizes.  I had a board that was 1/2 x 2 x 24".  I painted the board with a greenish color for the primer coat.
And another coat of a robin's egg blue...
I drilled some holes and decided on how to arrange the knobs. Some were kinda beat up...
so I distressed the paint job and it looks great!
I found the square birds nest plate at Hobby Lobby for $1.34.  Not sure why it was so cheap, but I snagged it and ran!
The knobs on my dresser are white porcelain too....
So, for $8 I made this great jewelry holder.  The paint samples were 3.99 each so that's where all my money went!
And it is such a functional project...I look forward to just pulling a necklace off and wearing it without having to untangle it!
I think the some of the tops of the knobs are copper.
Some of them came off my Goodwill desk makeover...
I love how the blue in the birds eggs match the back of the jewelry holder.

My baby is 17 today...

Here's my first pictures of my baby...the first one he is chewing on his thumb and the second one he is getting ready to chew on his foot.
Sam at five days old, after spending those first five days in the NICU, getting poked and stuck at least every hour for days...I was not a happy mama.  He had pneumonia and low blood sugars at birth.  I had been sick for about three weeks before he was born, so he probably just had a virus that I had too!
He was a skinny little guy, liked to eat, but he was long and lean.  My mom called him a stick baby with a big head.  All babies in our family have big heads.  I tried not to take it personally!
He's looking at me in this pic...

Here Sam is sitting in Grandma's chair.  You can read about that chair here.
Look how big those feet are..still tall and skinny!
I love those dark brown/black eyes!
Christmas eve, all washed and ready for bed...waiting!
We are at an auction here, and he wanted that scooter.  He sat on it most of the day, waiting for it to sell.  Grandpa bought it for him.
One of his first days of school...he looks so excited here...not like school now!
His cub scout den...even Rachel is wearing her blue and gold scarf!  These boys were so wild...I was the den mother for several years and they about drove me crazy (granted it was a short trip, but hey!)
I love black and white pictures...and I love this kid!
Time flies when you are having fun...

Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. ~Henry David Thoreau
If there was a tree, he climbed it!
And here he is now...hard to believe he is 17 now.  It's really hard to believe a person can love someone sooooo much!
He would probably strangle me if he knew I posted this, but he doesn't read my blog, so I am good!

Time is the most undefinable yet paradoxical of things; the past is gone, the future is not come, and the present becomes the past even while we attempt to define it, and, like the flash of lightning, at once exists and expires. ~Charles Caleb Colton
