Burlap and Rick Rack Table Runner

I have been seeing all sorts of burlap table runners in blog land.  I found this perfect strip of burlap for 25 cents at Salvation Army...and another day I found this funky rick rack in a giant ball for 50 cents.  The rick rack looked dirty so I set it in a bowl of water with a bit of detergent for a day...actually I forgot about it and found it sitting there the next morning.  The water was indeed dirty and the rick rack was a variegated vintage looking tan/brown.  Just perfect to go with my burlap!
I didn't even cut the burlap...just pressed  down the long edges and sewed the rick rack on top of that.  I did use Fray Check to keep it from fraying.  At the ends I sewed two strips of the rick rack and I just left the selvage edge unfinished.
I would photograph it on my table but my table is filled with my sewing and crafting mess at this point!
I don't think I could have found a more perfect trim for the burlap!

  5. I love it! I have to ask, though... when you use burlap, are you getting pieces of it flying around? I tried to make one of these and it was all linty on my black table? Maybe I am doing something wrong...anyhoo, I love yours! Great job!
